Temperature & Humidity Environmental Testing
Often referred to as temperature cycling, or thermal testing, temperature and humidity stress testing is a process of cycling between two extreme temperature conditions. The air temperature may be changed at a slow rate or a fast rate of change by controlling the air temperature and temperature transition rate. Temperature and humidity testing allows for accelerated changes inside the chamber but at a gradual rate of transition compared to traditional thermal shock testing.
Rapidly cycling temperatures can expose material incompatibilities and weaknesses in a number of different materials and product assemblies as the materials expand and contract in response to the temperature fluctuations.
Individual test requirements may call for temperature testing alone, or temperature and humidity testing. Our temperature and humidity testing services are used across an array of industries for product storage, temperature cycling tests, as well as high temperature and humidity testing. Many test applications include thermal cycling tests for automotive, electronics and defense testing where products are exposed to temperature extremes in their end use environment. Temperature and humidity storage is also in pharmaceutical testing and package testing for accelerated aging tests.
Temperature Cycling Combined with Other Environments
Temperature cycling may be combined with humidity and /or vibration to help uncover product defects often seen in transportation and defense industries. In addition temperature may also be combined with altitude for aerospace testing. Both of our A2LA accredited test laboratories in Cincinnati, OH and Detroit, MI include the capability to provide temperature and humidity testing along with vibration, or altitude.
As the desired results of temperature cycling testing can vary based on each specific test, we pride ourselves on being flexible to individual project requirements so as to provide industry leading testing and reporting services.
