About MIL-STD

The United States Department of Defense (DoD) has established a set of military standards and testing protocols used to verify quality for materials, processes, practices and methods which are purchased for military use. Among these military standards are MIL-STD, MIL-PRF and MIL-DTL. While each of these sub-sets provides standards and regulations, they are tailored for very specific purposes.

MIL-STD – Military standards are a sub-set which defines uniform engineering and technical requirements which include interface, design criteria, manufacturing processes, standard practices and testing methods.

Each standard is identified by a numerical code appearing behind the “MIL-STD” prefix. More information about each standard can be found at the United States DoD Directives Division website.

MIL-PRF – Military performance specifications states requirements in terms of verifying compliance without specifically stating the methods used for achieving the desired results. These standards often include functional requirements, the environment in which the product must operate and the interface and interchangeability characteristics.

MIL-DTL – Military detail specifications specify virtually every aspect of a product’s manufacturing and testing process. These specifications often include design requirements, material requirements, fabrication and assembly instructions, and how each part of the specification would be performed. Detail standards often include performance requirements as well as manufacturing requirements.

We Provide MIL-STD Testing Services

We provide all three of the testing standards listed above in some capacity, but our most commonly requested testing service for MIL-STD testing is the MIL-STD-810G sub-set.

MIL-STD-810 specifically applies to environmental engineering and laboratory tests. As MIL standards are updated they will usually be denoted by a revision letter. The current revision letter for MIL-STD-810 is MIL-STD-810G which was released in April of 2014.

MIL-STD-810G contains material acquisition program planning and engineering direction for considering the influences that environmental stresses have on material throughout all phases of its service life. It is important to note that this document does not impose design or test specifications, it describes the environmental tailoring process that results in realistic material designs and test methods based on material system performance requirements.

We are extremely proud of our partnership with defense contractors and we understand the critical nature of the tests we perform. Lives depend on the quality of the services we provide.

While we have expert-level experience for MIL-STD testing, we are also able to customize our testing solutions to meet your needs. For a list of our chamber capabilities, please visit our capabilities page.

Detailed below are a few commonly requested MIL-STD, MIL-PRF, and MIL-DTL standards. We also perform ASTM, ISTA and DO-160 testing.
